En los almacenes del mundo / In the warehouses of the world

La ciudad de GuangZhou, también conocida como Cantón, tiene fama de ser uno de los grandes almacenes del mundo.

Es impresionante ver naves enteras llenas solamente de bolígrafos, correctores (Tipp Ex), o cualquier otro artículo de papelería. Lo mismo ocurre con todas las chorradas que se pueden encontrar en los veinte duros españoles. Algunos centros comerciales estaban llenos de adornos navideños… en septiembre. Un universo a parte lleno de compradorxs de todos los países.

Como disponíamos de 24 horas en la ciudad, decidimos dar una vuelta por los principales puntos de interés. Después de visitar la catedral del Sagrado Corazón, pasamos por la mezquita más antigua de China. Parecía un templo chino con un faro en lugar de un minarete.

Seguimos paseando por los barrios tranquilos de la ciudad hasta llegar al templo más antiguo de Cantón. No nos sorprendió demasiado pues en esta parte del mundo los templos chinos son todos muy parecidos. Además, parecía que lo habían hecho hace dos días. Sin embargo nos gustó mucho el ambiente reinante, muy animado.

Visitamos un segundo templo chino con una bonita pagoda, a la que tristemente no se podía subir.

Lo que más nos ha gustado ha sido la isla de Shamian, en la que estaban confinadxs lxs extranjerxs antiguamente. Al estar cortada al tráfico, esta zona es especialmente agradable tanto para pasear como para comer. Aunque más ajetreado, también merece la pena dar un paseo junto al río por la noche, alquilar un tándem, tomar un helado e incluso hacer un crucero bajo los puentes iluminados.

It’s impressive to see the stocks full only of pens, corrector (Tipp Ex), or any other office article. The same happens with all the stupid things you can find in the only-one-euro shops all around the world. Some shopping malls are full of Christmas’s decorations… in September. A parallel universe full of buyers from all around the world.

Because we only had 24 hours in the city, we decided to go for a walk around the main points of interest. After visiting the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, we passed by the oldest mosque in China. It looked like a Chinese temple with a lighthouse instead of a minaret.

We continued walking through the city’s laid back neighborurhoods until we reached Canton’s oldest temple. It wasn’t very spectacular, because in this part of the world all the Chinese temples look quite similar. Moreover, it seemed that they had built it recently. However the prevailing atmosphere was very welcoming and full of live.

We visited a second Chinese temple with a nice pagoda, to which you couldn’t go up.

What we enjoyed the most was the island of Shamian, in which all the foreigners were confined in the past. The fact that it is cut to traffic, this area is especially pleasant to stroll and to eat. Even if it’s more crowded going for a walk along the river, renting a tandem, eating an ice cream or going for cruise under the illuminated bridges is a worthwhile experience.
