Kunming y las bicicletas / Kunming and the bicycles

Después de separarnos de la madre de Andrea y Xico hemos ido a Kunming, nuestra última parada en China. Queríamos haber ido a Lijiang y a la Garganta del Tigre Saltador para hacer una marcha de dos días. Sin embargo, la lluvia tenía otros planes, y hemos tenido que irnos a Laos. 

Pero antes ha ocurrido algo maravilloso: nos hemos comprado unas bicicletas. Ya teníamos la idea en la cabeza después de casi cuatro meses de mochilerxs. Esta forma de viajar no termina de convencernos pues al final solo vas de un sitio a otro, conociendo guiris en los hostales y teniendo la misma conversación (de dónde vienes, a dónde vas, qué te parece esto...). En cambio, cuando hemos viajado en bici o autostop hemos estado mucho más cerca de lxs lugareñxs y la experiencia nos ha resultado mucho más gratificante. 

Aprovechando lo baratas que son las bicicletas en China nos hemos regalado dos híbridas Giant ideales para viajar por estos lares. El plan es seguir el Mekong desde Vientiane hasta Camboya, y luego hacia el oeste a Tailandia. Estamos muy emocionadxs :)

Adiós China

After separating from Andrea's mother and Xico we've gone to Kunming, our last stop in China. We intended to go to Lijiang and the Tiger Leaping Gorge to do a two days trek. However, the rain had other plans, and we have been forced to go to Laos.

But before something wonderful has happened: we've bought a couple of bicycles. We already had the idea in our minds after nearly four months backpacking. This way of travelling is not completely satisfactory for us since you just go from one place to another, meeting other travellers in hostels and having the same conversation (where do you come from, where are you going, what do you think about this...). On the other hand, when we've travelled cycling or hitch-hiking we have been closer to the locals and the experience has been more pleasant.

Making the most out of being in China and the low prices of bicycles, we've bought two Giant hybrid bicycles, perfect to travel in this area. The plan is to follow the Mekong river from Vientiane to Cambodia, and then turn West to Thailand. We are very excited :)
