Los alrededores de Mandalay / Around Mandalay

Como no había nada entretenido que hacer en Mandalay, alquilamos una moto y nos fuimos a visitar los alrededores.

Mientras que en Bali nos costaba 3€ al día, en Birmania alquilar una moto se paga a 10€. Precios exclusivos en un país que atrae a l@s turistas en busca de tierras vírgenes.

Nos dieron una scooter semi automática, de las que tienen un pedal para cambiar de marcha. No funcionaba muy allá. Algo curioso de aquí es que circulan por la derecha, pero tienen el volante también a la derecha (traen los coches baratos de Japón); esto no ayuda a mejorar el caos circulatorio reinante.

Primero fuimos a Amarapura a ver el puente de teca más grande del mundo. El puente de U Bein no es más que un muelle muy largo. 

Después de comer frente al lago que  cruza el puente, fuimos a Sagaing. Lo que más nos gustó fue cruzar el puente sobre el río Ayeyarwady (Irrawady) viendo la colina de Sagaing llena de estupas blancas y doradas. Las vistas desde la Pagoda Pon Nya Shin en lo alto de la colina son muy bonitas.

Hicimos una parada junto al fuerte Thabyedan donde Alvaro aprendió a conducir. Lo más divertido del día.

With nothing interesting to do in Mandalay, we rented a motorbike and we went to visit the city's surroundings.

While in Bali we paid three euros a day, in Burma renting a motorbike costs ten euros. Exclusive prices for a country that attracts tourists looking for unspoilt places.

They gave us a semi-automatic scooter, one of those who has a pedal to change gears. It didn't work very well. A curious fact is that here they drive on the right hand side, but hey also have the wheel on right side (they bring cheap cars from Japan); this doesn't help to make the chaotic circulation any better.

First of all, we went to Amarapura to see the longest wooden bridge made out of teak in the world. U Bein's bridge is nothing  but a really long pier.

After eating in front the lake that's crossed by the bridge, we headed to Sagaing. The best thing was crossing the bridge over the Ayeyarwady (Irrawady) river, looking at the Sagaing Hill dotted with lots of white and golden stupas. The views from the Pon Nya Shin Pagoda high up the hill were very nice too.

We made a stop next to Thabyedan fort where Alvaro learnt how to drive. The most enjoyable part of the day.
