Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park

En la parte malaya de Borneo no tuvimos mucho tiempo pero lo empleamos muy bien. El primer sitio al que fuimos fue el Parque Nacional Tunku Abdul Rahman, famoso por sus playas y la posibilidad de bucear y hacer snorkel en ellas.

Es un parque marino situado justo en frente de la ciudad de Kota Kinabalu y compuesto por unas cuantas islas de diferente tamaño. Apenas se tarda quince minutos en llegar en barco desde el centro de la ciudad en unas lanchas rápidas que no son precisamente baratas.

Nosotrxs elegimos la isla de Mamutik, un sitio pequeño en el que se puede acampar y hay un restaurante. Pagamos dos euros y medio cada unx por entrar y un euro y medio por acampar. La primera impresión no fue muy buena porque estaba a rebosar de turistas, pero escogimos un lugar un poco apartado para montar nuestra nueva y flamante tienda que acabábamos de comprar en Indonesia.

A eso de las cuatro la gente desapareció y nos quedamos solxs en la isla (cerraron hasta el restaurante). Nos dimos un último baño antes de ducharnos, y nos cenamos las provisiones que habíamos comprado en el puerto (no dejéis de hacerlo si vais allí).

Al atardecer y por la noche se estaba realmente bien, en la playa tranquilamente con las luces de la ciudad a lo lejos.

We didn’t have much time to spend in the Malay part of Borneo but we made the most out of it. The first place we visited was Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, famous for its beaches and the opportunity to dive or go snorkeling in them.

It is a marine park situated just in front of the city of Kota Kinabalu and it consists of a few a islands of different size. It barely takes fifteen minutes to reach it from the city the city centre by speedboats that aren’t precisely cheap.

We chose the island of Mamutik, a small place in which you can camp and there is a restaurant. We paid two and a half euros each to go in and one and a half to camp. The first impression wasn’t very good because it was full of tourists, but we found a nice spot in which to pitch our new and shiny tent that we had just bought in Indonesia.

Around four the people disappeared and we were alona in the island (they even closed the restaurant). We took a last bath before having a shower and we ate what we had bought on the pier (don’t forget to do it if you go there).

It was a very pleasant place to be during the sunset and the night, especially on the calm beach with the lights of the city on the background.
