Yo quiero ir a Birmania / I want to go to Burma

El verano pasado, hablando de a qué sitio irías si pudieras, Andrea me dijo “yo quiero ir a Birmania”. Unas imágenes de unos templos en ruinas en medio de la naturaleza se habían metido en su cabeza.

Yo le contesté “hagámoslo”. Entonces no tenía mucho sentido cruzarse medio mundo para pasarse un mes en Birmania. Sin embargo, la idea del viaje que os estamos contando había nacido.

Ese verano decidimos irnos a Grecia y a Turquía en bicicleta.

Como nuestras cabezas no se pueden parar en los planes de un solo verano seguimos pensando a dónde y cuándo ir. Acordamos que el verano siguiente, después de que terminara la universidad en Estambul, iríamos a Birmania, aprovechando que estaríamos más cerca.

Y así ha sido, después de Estambul nos hemos ido a Birmania…

Pero claro, como ya estábamos en la zona, las cosas por aquí son más baratas y teníamos tiempo y ganas, paramos en unos cuantos sitios antes.

Ahora, por fin, tras cinco meses de un viaje increíble y único, hemos llegado a Birmania, y el sueño –que ya era de l@s dos- se ha hecho realidad.

Last summer, talking about the place you’d go to if you could, Andrea told me “I want to go to Burma”. Images from ruined temples in the middle of the nature had gotten into her head.

I answered “let’s do it”. Then it didn’t make much sense to cross half the world to stay one month in Burma. Nevertheless, the idea of the journey we are telling you about had been born.

That summer we decided to go to Greece and Turkey with our bicycles.

Because our minds can’t keep still and only think about the plans of one summer, we were still thinking of where and when to go. We agreed that the next summer, after I finished university in Istanbul, we would go to Burma, making the most out of the fact that we would be closer.

And that’s how it has been, after Istanbul we have gone to Burma…

But you know, because we were already in the area, the things here are cheaper and we had time and the desire, we have stopped in a few places in the meantime.

Now, finally, after five months of an incredible and unique journey, we’ve arrived to Burma, and the dream –that we both shared- has become true.
