Finding George Orwell in Burma, Emma Larkin

Si el primer libro que hay que leer en Birmania es Burmese days, la primera novela de George Orwell, el segundo es sin duda alguna Finding George Orwell in Burma, de Emma Larkin.

Antes de nada os avisamos: la señora Larkin te cuenta el final del libro de Orwell en la tercera página del suyo, y además es mucho mejor haber leído primero a Orwell, pues se disfruta mucho más el libro.

Algo que no nos gusta nada del trabajo de Emma Larkin es que insiste demasiado en las analogías entre Rebelión en la granja y Mil novecientos ochenta y cuatro y la situación sociopolítica de Birmania. Eso nos molesta y nos parece un anacronismo.

Sin embargo, Finding George Orwell in Burma es una muy buena obra para comprender lo que está pasando en Birmania, y aprender cosas de su historia y su cultura.

If the first book you have to read in Burma is Burmese days, George Orwell's first novel, the second one is without a doubt Finding George Orwell in Burma, by Emma Larkin.

Before anything else we have to warn you: miss Larkin tells you the end of Orwell's book in the third page of hers, and moreover it is much better to have read Orwell first, because you can enjoy much more the book.

Something we don't like at all about Emma Larkin's work is that she insists too much in the analogies between Animal Farm and 1984  and Burma's sociopolitic situation. This annoys us and we think it is an anachronism.

However, Finding George Orwell in Burma is a very nice work to understand what is happening in Burma, and learn things about it's history and culture.
